I had a forging course in February, and I made there couple of these little cuties. Small axes for cutting smaller pieces of wood for starting up a fire etc. Small and lightweight enough to carry into forest with you.
The handle is birch, the blade mild steel with carbon steel edge.
Made using only "traditional" blacksmithing techniques, meaning the eye is punched and formed to shape and the carbon steel is forge welded to place. The bottom one has a small welding defect, not visible in the photo.
Length of the metal part about 11 cm, handle about 28 cm.
